Case Podcomp – Lindbäcks

Optimized for timber. Tested a thousand times.

Lindbäcks Bygg manufactures timber multi-family housing at its factory in Piteå, using a production flow similar to a car factory where 40 modules roll out every week. Every part of the production must function seamlessly; otherwise, the line comes to a halt.

  • 40 modules per week produced at the factory
  • All bathrooms with showers are supplied by Podcomp
  • Partnered with Podcomp since 2012

Every kilogram counts when building with timber

Lindbäcks builds with timber – a construction designed to be lightweight all the way into the bathroom. Every kilogram matters: in the structural design, during lifting, and during transportation.

Then there are the drying times. Waterproofing, tiling, and grouting – without a finished bathroom pod, the bathroom alone takes two to three days. In a factory flow of 40 modules per week, that is a bottleneck no one can afford.

How it works in practice: Lindbäcks Bygg, Piteå

Lindbäcks’ factory in Piteå operates like an assembly line. Modules move forward station by station. Walls, floors, ceilings, installations – until a complete apartment volume rolls out.

The bathroom pods from Podcomp are delivered in assembly order, lifted into the volume, and connected within an hour. Then, production continues.

Quick facts about Lindbäcks:

  • Builds timber multi-family housing up to 8–9 stories
  • Produces 40 modules per week at the Piteå factory
  • All bathrooms with showers are delivered by Podcomp; no other suppliers are used

One hour instead of three days

“Once we receive the pod, it takes about an hour to make all connections and lift it in. Compared to three days of work, we are talking about a single hour. If we were to do this work ourselves, we would never be able to maintain the pace we want.”
– Peter Eriksson, Factory Manager, Lindbäcks Bygg

We build in timber, and that influences all our choices

“Our entire construction is built around the properties of wood. A heavy bathroom construction is never an option – not for the building, the lift, or the transport.”
– Patrik Lindholm, Business Developer, Lindbäcks Bygg

Not a single project with moisture damage

“Since we started using Podcomp’s modules, we haven’t had a single bathroom with moisture damage through the waterproofing layer.”
– Caroline Pettersson, Aftermarket Manager, Lindbäcks Bygg

Podcomp’s Solution

Lightweight construction, built for timber. Podcomp’s pods are made of fiber composite, not concrete or steel. This makes them significantly lighter than alternative solutions, which is crucial when the volume is lifted and transported to the construction site.

Factory-finished, straight into the flow. The module is delivered complete with surface finishes – vinyl or tile/clinker depending on the order. It is lifted into the volume, connected in an hour, and production rolls on without interruption.

Integrated waterproofing. Zero leaks. The waterproofing is integrated into the composite material, not applied on-site. This eliminates the risk of leakage and ensures that every module maintains the same high quality.

The Result for Lindbäcks

Maintaining the pace. With 40 volumes a week and a flow that must not stop, a one-hour assembly time per bathroom pod is the difference between a functional factory flow and a constant bottleneck.

The right weight for timber structures. Fiber composite instead of concrete or steel means the pods do not place unnecessary load on the structure and are easier to handle during lifting and transport.

Easy to renovate. A damaged tile can be repaired without interfering with the structure – a simple procedure that doesn’t halt production or require specialized expertise.

“Podcomp’s quality is hard to match – and for our production, there is no better alternative.”
– Peter Eriksson, Factory Manager, Lindbäcks Bygg

“Podcomp manages its own aftermarket and offers a 10-year warranty on the waterproofing. This gives us peace of mind. If our customers are happy, we are happy – and they are!”
– Caroline Pettersson, Aftermarket Manager, Lindbäcks Bygg
