Case Podcomp – Derome
In traditional bathroom construction, drying times are inevitable. Self-leveling screed takes three days. Mortar and grout add another one to two days per step. In an industrial factory flow, where modules move station by station, each such delay is a bottleneck that risks slowing down the entire production.
Furthermore, there is the requirement for specialized skills: wet rooms require trained tilers with the correct certifications. This is a skill set that must be recruited and continuously certified internally.
Derome builds timber apartment volumes at its factory in Väröbacka, outside Varberg. Each volume is constructed from walls, floors, and ceilings in a continuous factory flow. The bathroom is handled as its own sub-station: the pod is lifted in, electricity and water are connected, and the volume rolls on. No drying times. No extra steps in between.
“Now the bathroom is finished when we lift it onto the floor joists – everything is included. Otherwise, drying times would have caused serious issues. Screed, mortar, and grout – every step requires its own drying time.”
– Peter Wallrud, Tactical Buyer, Derome
“Usually, you need to provide certification for the expertise of the person who installed the waterproofing and the tiling. With Podcomp’s P-mark from RISE, that requirement is already met. We don’t need to have trained tilers in our factory.”
– Hanna Bülund, Moisture Specialist, Derome
Factory-finished – ready for assembly. Podcomp’s bathroom pods are delivered complete with tiles, clinker, and integrated waterproofing. The module is lifted directly into Derome’s production flow without waiting for drying times or contractors.
Certification requirements met at the factory. Podcomp’s modules are delivered with a P-mark from RISE. This P-marking means that wet room certification is already fulfilled. Derome does not need its own trained tilers on the factory floor.
Easy to fix if something happens. The waterproofing is integrated into the composite material, not the surface layer. This means that a crack in the grout or a loose tile can be repaired without affecting the waterproofing—a simple procedure that doesn’t require demolition.
Production maintains its pace. With ~12 bathrooms a week and a factory flow that cannot stop, it is crucial that every part arrives ready for assembly. Podcomp delivers in assembly order, allowing Derome’s factory to plan without unexpected interruptions.
No need for in-house tilers. Since the P-marking from RISE replaces the requirement for internal certifications, Derome avoids the need to recruit and continuously certify specialized skills internally – a direct cost saving.
Fast and simple warranty claims. Complaints are handled without interfering with the structure. The integrated waterproofing means the surface layer can be repaired independently, quickly and without unnecessary downtime.
“There are no projects without problems – everyone has them. It’s how you handle them that counts. And we do that, together with Podcomp. It’s a partnership that lasts.”
– Peter Wallrud, Tactical Buyer, Derome
